Joan d'Arc

Here is my final version of this gal. I ended up cropping the canvas for compositional purposes. I thought all the other elements in the previous versions weren't really helping that much + I spent lots and lots of hours just on her upper half.

I can see why you chose to concentrate on the top and crop the bottom, however when I look at your previous comps, I really like being able to see her legs and elements, like the cross.
The fabric on her shall has some nice subtle rendering. In my opinion, if you could continue what you did, and render the lower part of the dress that well, it might be a stronger piece. Also, you could ground her and show some distance for more setting information. The top of her doesn't tell the story of being in France, or the time period as much.

Yeah I was kind of sad having to crop out those parts for better composition because I spent so many hours on those fucking folds! But now I know how to render fabric a little bit better I can try it again. I'm sure I'll probably revive this piece again some time...
