Self Portrait

Well, when I went to do another self portrait this morning, I looked at my Wednesday post with horror. I almost wanted to delete it, but then realized that there is only going forward and it motivated me to do a series of these. I also learned that one of the challenges to doing a self portrait is being a good model, my head continues to shift toward the screen I am painting on, and tilt up, elongating and narrowing the proportions. Now I know what Masha goes through when I try to get her to sit still for a sketch, it goes against every impulse to fidget around. hopefully I can do enough of these to get a consistent likeness. And find some other models....

damn you sexy man you!

this is an amazing self-portrait! if anything, I think your lips might be a bit short on the length side of things. but you really captured your likeness here!

Clearly an improvement. Walt Stanchfield used to say that every artist has 1000 bad drawings in him or her. So get them out. Something to that effect.
The angle is a little more engaging too. Try taking a photo of the angle you wan so you don't lose your place. Then use the mirror and you don't have to worry so much about being still.

That is a good idea, so I can keep coming back to the same pose. I like that quote, I think I have more like 10,000, but all the more reason to keep rocking them.

It's getting better. I agree with Emery about taking pictures from different angles to analyze yourself.
